Dear Alumni and Friends,
Autumn is the season of harvest when individuals reap the rewards of their hard work. Each year, the Office of Alumni Relations looks to provide a refresh of benefits to our community. We are excited to introduce a new partnership with Meyer and Associates (M&A) for insurance discounts and financial services.
Through M&A, the New York Tech alumni community and their families may receive unique discounts on insurance such as auto, home and rental, life, travel, dental, vision, pet, identity theft, and more. Our partnership may also provide real estate benefits, student loan refinancing, and insurance advisory services. Learn more or contact our administrator at 800.635.7801.
Autumn is also a reminder that one’s body, mind, and surroundings are always developing. This fall, we enter the third year of New York Tech’s universitywide mentorship program. Designed to support our students on their career readiness journey, alumni and friends volunteer their time and expertise to aid students in developing their networks, job-hunting skills, and interview techniques.
Recently, a mentorship pair—Subbarao Medha Kala, an M.B.A. student, and Robert Hammarberg, Ph.D. (B.S. ’13)—whose relationship has extended beyond the original semester cohort, met in person for the first time at the New York City campus.

Throughout the conversation, it was evident that Subbarao and Robert have developed a long-lasting connection. “The mentorship program exceeded my expectations,” said Subbarao. “When the semester ended, I kept scheduling meetings with Robert, even through the summer. Robert has been great in helping me figure out if I was on the right track or not. Through everything, Robert has been there for me.”
Robert continued, “Mentorship was a key part of my personal and professional development at New York Tech, and I see it as an easy way to give back and support current students in a way that has a lot of meaning and allows you to see your impact in real time.”
As more students apply for mentorships, we look to add to our volunteer mentor roster. Learn more about the program and sign up or email me directly.
As always, I welcome your suggestions and ideas for events and initiatives to keep our alumni connected with one another and New York Tech. Please feel free to reach out to me at spolidor@nyit.edu.
Happy Fall! Go Bears!
