ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
New York Tech graduates are going places.
Find out how your fellow Bears are doing, making, innovating, healing, and reinventing the future.
Oneil Gayle (B.S. ’01)
A Jamaica native, Oneil Gayle came to New York Institute of Technology on a track and field scholarship to study mechanical engineering. Despite being from another country, he never felt out of place at New York Tech.
“As an international student, it would have been easy to feel lonely, as I was a long way away from home and from a different culture,” Gayle says. “But my first morning waking up on [the Central Islip] campus, I saw other students outside playing cricket, a sport we played in Jamaica. So I went out and played with them. Being able to connect with others immediately was great.”
Tyler King (D.O. ’20)
With a love for both politics and medicine, Tyler King says he’s “living the dream,” working as a family physician as well as serving as a city council member in Laredo, Texas.
“In my medical work, I love helping people achieve healthy lives and watching my patients succeed in their health goals,” says King, who is also a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve. “As a city council member, there’s nothing I enjoy more than to help improve people’s quality of life and preserving the quality of residential communities. It’s rewarding.”
Jasdeep Gulati (M.S. ’22)
As someone who immigrated to British Columbia, Canada, from India, Jasdeep Gulati understands how drastic the temperature adjustment can be for new residents coming from warmer parts of the world.
“When I came to Canada, I knew nothing about the climate conditions,” Gulati says. “For example, we don’t have furnaces in our country, so if someone has never seen a furnace, but they rent or buy a house in Canada, they might not know they need to change the furnace filters.”
