In Memoriam

A beloved member of the New York Tech family, Gabriel Sunshine, Ph.D., was recruited following a meeting with the university’s founder, Alexander Schure, Ph.D., when the Long Island campus first opened its doors to students in 1966.
Sunshine held office hours in Harry Schure Hall since the building first opened in 1967 and played a key role in developing the university’s early science curriculum and served as a founding member of New York Tech’s chapter of the American Association of University Professors. His remarkable career also included decorated service in the U.S. Air Force for 30 years—which included many missions where he flew as a reservist on weekends, between semesters, and holidays—retiring with the rank of colonel in 1986.
We extend our deepest condolences to Professor Sunshine’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
